"Before Talking to the Insurance Adjustor or Hiring an Attorney You Should Know Your Rights and Responsibilities"

I was involved in a motorcycle accident, should I hire an attorney?

Answer:

You should know that you may not need to hire an attorney. If you sustained minor injuries that did not require medical care or only 1 visit to the doctor then you may be able to handle your case on your own. Likewise, if you do not have any permanent injuries like scars, broken bones, pain or limitations then you may be successful in settling the case with the insurance company on your own.

On the other hand, if you have sustained serious injuries then you should consider talking to and perhaps hiring an attorney early on in your case because there are many mistakes that you could make which could cost you thousands of dollars. For example, failing to properly deal with subrogation claims (which are claims made by your health insurance or motorcycle insurance company) can result in all or part of a settlement being paid to the insurance company leaving you with nothing. There are special laws in Iowa to deal with subrogation interests, but unless you know how the laws work and how to deal with subrogation companies like Ingenix, Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Healthcare Recoveries, etc. then you may be giving away thousands of dollars that should go into your pocket.

IF YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE AN EMPLOYMENT LAW CLAIM THERE ARE DEADLINES WHICH CAN BE AS SHORT AS ONLY A FEW DAYS TO FILE A GRIEVANCE OR ONLY A FEW MONTHS TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSION OR EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE AN EMPLOYMENT LAW CASE THEN YOU SHOULD CONSULT WITH AN ATTORNEY RIGHT AWAY.)
