If I am taken off work by the doctor should I receive a weekly check?

Answer:
Yes. If the doctor they have approved says that you are unable to work then you should receive a weekly check. The amount of the check is called your "rate" which is generally based upon your average weekly wages for a period of 13 weeks before you were injured. The total number of hours you work count, but overtime is counted at your normal hourly rate. Usually, yearly bonuses should be included in the rate calculation and weeks which do not represent your normal work week (for example, you may have taken some vacation days or were sick) are usually skipped. There is much more information about how your rate is determined in my Iowa work injury book.
